Sport Still Unites Nigerians- Senate Spokesperson

Senator Dr Ajibola Basiru of Osun Central Senatorial District has urged governments at all levels to invest more in sports as an avenue to still hold the nation together.

Senator Basiru gave the advice at Osogbo City Stadium at the kick off of football matches marking the beginning of the Press Week of OSBC Chapel of the NUJ.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Hon. Adetoye Muthoir Olarewaju Akere, Senator Ajibola Basiru observed that sports play important roles in uniting people as Nigerians jettison religions and tribes especially during football matches and see each other as one behind national teams.

He also added that sports have been known to take youths away from idleness and crimes, regretting that what is being witnessed today in societies as regards youth involvement in crimes could be stemmed through youth involvement in sports.

Senator Basiru commended Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for producing the recent Youth Policy Document and the plan to hold Osun Sports Festival for youths. He urged youngsters to key into the policies to build a brighter future for themselves.
