I rejoice with Muslim brothers and sisters for marking another glorious Eid El Kabir celebration. Every religious celebration is not unconnected with reason. As a people ready to grow, we must learn from the lesson and grow with it. Eid El Kabir was invited by the faithfulness of Prophet Ibraheem who made a promise at a time of dare need. Prophet Ibraheem, with a barren wife, attempted to slaughter his only son, Ismail, in fulfilment of the pledge. And God surprised him by giving him a ram in replacement for Ismail.
As faithful countrymen, I enjoin us to abstain killing fellow human being. If killing of non convicted person were to be legal, religious would have permitted it.
As a people, we aspire to be better. In the aspiration to get stronger, we device possible means without much attention to the effect. We go far as making promises in the time of needs. Most times, human go far as committing crimes against humanity.
I challenge is to provide a chapter either in Holy Books that support killing without authoritative conviction.
I plead with Nigerians to exchange love, embrace peace and unity. Let’s be one another’s keepers. There is strength in togetherness. Much could be achieved in understanding. Our diversity is a strength provided we effectively manage it.
I appeal to our religious reasoning, our cultural teachings and ethnic upbringing to shun sentiment and promote love that will foster generational growth.
I pray for a more joyous Sallah celebration in a united Nigeria.
