Police Officer Dismissed In Osun For Killing Okada Rider

The Osun State Police Command, on Friday announced the dismissal of one Sergeant Adamu Garba who shot one Saheed Olabomi in Osogbo.

Garba had on Tuesday, July 27, shot Olabomi, a commercial motorcyclist well known as okada rider, around Old Oba Road in Osogbo, and left him injured in the face.

After over 48 hours on life support, Olabomi eventually died on Thursday, July 29, at the University of Osun Teaching Hospital, Osogbo of gunshot injuries he sustained.

Announcing the decision of the command regarding the incident in a statement on Friday, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, recalled that the state Police Commissioner, Wale Olokode, had arrested and detained the policeman involved for disciplinary action.

Part of the statement read:

“As the Commissioner of Police had promised, in the best tradition of transparency and accountability that the outcome of the trial will be brought to the public, the policeman, F/NO.467549 Sergeant Adamu Garba, has been tried in an Orderly Room in line with the laid down rules and regulations of the Nigeria Police Disciplinary procedure.

“The erring officer has been found guilty of the offence and subsequently dismissed from the Force.The orderly room procedure has been forwarded to the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja for necessary action towards prosecution.This, he believes, will serve as a deterrent to other policemen.”
