Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun is right. Isn’t he? That The Osun Progressives TOP is not speaking the mind of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on the latter’s support for his second term bid.
On Friday, August 27, the Osun State helmsman in a live interview on RAVE FM, Osogbo asserted that The Osun Progressives, a caucus of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the State of Osun is not speaking the mind of Aregbesola in the build-up to the 2022 governorship election.
This was revealed by the Coordinator, Progressives Minded Forum, Comrade Sunday Oriowo.
The Governor had said, “Well, those people — I’m not too sure that the people that have been saying that are saying his mind. I believe he is my brother and I believe at any point in time, he wants my success because I worked very hard for eight years for his success as well.
“If people are saying that (that they won’t support me) I’m not too sure they are telling the story from his own heart. He remains my brother. They are not speaking his mind. As I said, I don’t see why he would not be willing to support me if the people say they want me.”
To be factual, Oyetola is right. In fact, we are excited the Governor for the first time since his emergence in Osun gets this one thing right. TOP is NOT speaking Aregbesola’s mind. They are speaking the mind of the majority of the members of the APC in Osun.
We are certain that with the seeming maltreatment and sponsored attacks on the members of the party who have openly disagreed with the way party affairs are managed, the fate of Oyetola in the 2022 election is shaky and might portend great danger to the success of the APC in the state.
We advise the Governor to allow party members to have a say in the scheme of things. It is of no good to the future of the party if Oyetola thinks only those in his kitchen cabinet can win the next election for him.
