Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is the current minister for interior affairs. He is also a former governor of Osun State.
Aregbesola had earlier served as Lagos State Commissioner for Works under Bola Tinubu’s administration before he emerged as governor in 2010.
The former governor was appointed as Minister for Interior Affairs by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
The 2023 general election is fast approaching and politicians have started revealing their ambitions. Aregbesola has remained silent on his political ambitions after Buhari’s tenure ends in 2023.
However, there are some positions that Aregbesola is qualified for in 2023.
1. The former governor is qualified to run for the presidency in 2023. If the All Progressive Congress zones its presidential ticket to the South West, Aregbesola is one of the prominent politicians who can get the ticket. The minister can also be a running mate if the ticket is zoned to the North.
2. Aregbesola can also contest for a senatorial position in Osun State in 2023.
3. The former governor can be reappointed as minister if the All Progressive Congress wins the presidential election in 2023.
4. Aregbesola can also be appointed as the Chief of Staff to the President. The position of CoS is for experienced politicians like Aregbesola.
