Oyo Govt To Spend N4.9B On Ibadan Airport Road, Others

The Oyo State government has approved the award of a N4.9 billion contract for the dualisation of the Ibadan Airport Road and other link roads in the capital.

The announcement was made by Pro Daud Sangodoyin, the Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport while briefing pressmen on the weekly state executive council meeting outcomes.

According to him, “the project’s scope is about 10.8 kilometres, with a service link by the Iwo Road Bus Terminal.

“A 3.2 kilometres stretch of Ibadan Airport Road and 194.5 metres access road in that axis and also the 2.0 kilometres Oludare – Bishop Philips Road, were all included in the approval,”

“Others are an extension of the road connecting the Iwo Road Interchange to Adegbayi Road by 400 metres.”

He added that the project awarded to KOPEK Construction Company would be completed through direct funding within six months.

Mr Sangodoyin further mentioned that the airport road and link road projects were awarded to assist the economic expansion plan of the state.

According to him, ,,”when completed, the projects would also impact the ease of doing business as well as the movement of goods, services, and people around that axis.

Before now, the federal government has awarded the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa road project to KOPEK Construction Company. So, we used the opportunity to also award the same dualisation of Ibadan Airport Road to the same construction company at the value of N4.9 billion,” Mr Sangodoyin. “The duration of the project is six months, and the funding is direct payment.”

He added, “Remember that we have had the opportunity to get a loan of N50 billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). So, we are using part of the loan to upgrade the airport and all other adjoining roads.”
