A bloody street brawl between suspected rival cult groups on Sunday led to the death of one person in Ilorin, capital of the Kwara State.
it was gathered that the bloody encounter was said to have occurred in Surulere area of the metropolis last Friday around 8:35pm.
It was gathered that the deceased also belonged to another cult group that has had a running battle with a rival group.
It was learnt that during the incident, sporadic gunshots between the suspected cult groups rented the air.
Spokesperson of Kwara Police Command Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident, decrying a resurgence of cult clashes in the metropolis.
Okasanmi added that the Command has arrested three persons in connection with the crime.
He added that the Command also recovered one tricycle and motorcycle used by the suspected cultists.
According to him, “A report of sporadic shootings by suspected cultists was received in Surulere, Ilorin around Total fuel station on February 5th.
“On arrival at the scene, a team detectives dispatched by the commissioner of police Kwara State was faced with an unidentified body of a young man lying in the pool of his blood, having been shot by suspected cultists.
“About three days ago we arrested some confirmed cultists aftermath of the recent killing of a suspected cultist by a rival cult group along Emir’s Road, Ilorin about three days ago.”
He hinted Kwara Commissioner of Police Tuesday Assayomo has ordered a discreet investigation into the case and all other cult related cases in the state.
He said that the Command had equally ordered a-24 hour aggressive patrols of Ilorin metropolis.
The Command solicited “the cooperation of all and sundry in the onerous effort by the command to possibly and completely wipe out the ugly menace of cultism in our society.
He urged parents and guidance to monitor the activities of their children/wards, imploring them to “ask their children questions when in doubt of their dealings when necessary.”
