Police Arraign Man Who Killed His Father After Smoking Cannabis In Ekiti

The Police State Command in Ekiti has arraigned a man simply identified as Waheed Olayinka before a Magistrates Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly killing his father with a big stick with the aide of his friend.

According to the police prosecutor, Olubu Apata noted that the 23-year-old and his friend committed the offence on Jan. 27 in Ipoti-Ekiti.

Apata stated that the suspect in his statement admitted that he and his friend laid ambush for his father on his farm.

The police prosecutor further stated that Olayinka disclosed that he killed his father with a big stick after hitting him four times on the forehead.

It was gathered that the deceased slumped and fell off his motorcycle before he was covered with cocoa leaves.

Apata added that the defendant confessed that he and his friend took cannabis Sativa before killing his father.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

The Chief Magistrate, Kehinde Awosika in her ruling ordered that the defendant be remanded in the correctional centre, pending the issuance of legal advice.

She adjourned the case to March 3 for mention.
