Two members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were reportedly on Tuesday slumped during swearing-in parade for the 2022 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 corps members in Dutse, Jigawa.

The corps members who slumped while participating in the parade were immediately rushed to the camp clinic by the medical team attached to NYSC. Commenting on the incident, the NYSC coordinator, Aishatu Adamu, said the victims might have been affected by extreme stress.

Ms Adamu added that the corps members were treated by a medical team and had recovered.

Earlier, NYSC director-general Shuiabu Ibrahim urged corps members to shun cultism, drug abuse and other social
vices.

Mr Ibrahim, represented by Ms Adamu, also advised the corps members to promote national unity, peace and harmony in their places of primary assignment.

“I urge you to avoid using the social media for spreading fake news, fueling hatred and other negative purposes,” the director-general said.

He lauded First Lady Aisha Buhari for her humanitarian gesture to the scheme.

“May I appeal for the support of all stakeholders for the success of our health initiative for rural dwellers, which is aimed at providing easier access to free and qualitative health care, especially for the indigent,” said Mr Ibrahim.

“I implore them to take a cue from the first lady by donating well-equipped ambulances for the operation of NYSC mobile clinics as well as other essential equipment and drugs.”

The director-general also encouraged corps members to avail themselves of the opportunities for self-employment offered through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SADE) programme.
