Court Sentences Teenager Who Stole Spaghetti, Noodles To Four Months Imprisonment

 

An Upper Area Court sitting in Gwagwalada, Abuja, has sentenced a teenage student identified as Hillary Yunana to four months imprisonment for stealing spaghetti and indomie from a shop.

The 19-year-old student who resides at Bassa village, along airport road, Abuja, was on Thursday, charged with burglary and theft.

In his ruling, Justice Sani Umar sentenced Yunana after he pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for leniency.

Umar, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine for each of the offences, or serve a jail-term of two months each for the offences.

He said that the sentence would run
concurrently and urged him to desist from committing crime in the future.

The judge said the sentence would serve as deterrent to anyone who wants to tow that depraved path in the future.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Abudulahi Tanko, told the court that the convict had broke into the shop of Gift Ugochukwu, at Bassa village, on March 4.

The prosecution counsel said that the convict had stolen seven pieces of spaghetti, five pieces of indomie noodles and a cash sum of N10,000.

Tanko added that all the items stolen with were valued at N13,000, adding that the offence that contravened the provisions of Sections 346 and 287 of the Penal Code.
