Safety Rules Your Child Should Know

Every parent is concerned about the safety of his or her child, especially when they are away. Hence, the need to arm your child with basic safety tips that keeps them relatively safe. This will not only help your child understand his environment better and sense danger, but will also keep your mind as parents at ease.
Safety rules are beneficial and essential even to adults, as the saying goes, ‘it is better safe than sorry,’ as aftermath of situations can be an overburden.

First basic safety rule is that a child should know his parent’s full name, phone number and home address. It is important for parents to arm their children with this basic information in case of an emergency, so you can be easily contacted. Also, help your child memorise these with regular practice at home, including backup phone numbers of grandparents, an uncle or aunt.

Teach your child not to go anywhere with a stranger. Your child should know that no matter what the reason is, it is not safe to go anywhere with a stranger. Tell your child that if a stranger tells, ‘Your mom asked you to come with me immediately,’ they should stay where they are and shout out for help.

Your child should also not eat or drink anything offered by a stranger. It can be tempting for children to resist an offer from strangers, but you should ensure your child understands the dangers of receiving from unknown people.
Teach your child not to take lonely paths or walk alone. It is a critical issue in this time that children are not left alone to walk home either from school or an errand. A company puts strangers and even kidnappers away; picking more than one child away will be a more difficult task and will raise brows. So, at every time, your child shouldn’t be left alone.

Teach your child to protect his body as no one is allowed to touch his or her body. This is a very important safety rule for children and you should teach about it as soon as your child can understand the basics. Teach about good touch and bad touch. Tell your child that no one is allowed to touch except mummy, and sometimes daddy, if needed. Teach your child to immediately raise an alarm or report if anyone touches inappropriately.
Teach your child to stand by what he is comfortable doing. No matter what your child may be asked to do, if it makes him uncomfortable, your child should not do it. This could be something as simple as taking off clothes in front of others. If your kid is not comfortable about it, no matter how many friends are doing it, your kid should not do it at all.
These simple but important rules will help ensure your child’s safety and while keeping you relaxed. Despite these safety rules for children, remember to be vigilant and always communicate openly to help them open up and reach out to you.
