A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos on Monday ordered that a man identified as Tobi David, be remanded for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl.
The 21-year-old man whose address is unknown was charged with defilement by police.
Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya, who did not take the plea of Mr David, ordered that he should be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
Mr Adekomaiya directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice, and adjourned the case until June 6, 2022 for DPP advice.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Nkem Uko, told the court that Mr Davidvl committed the offence on April 13, at about 10:00 a.m., at Ashipa Quarters, Sème Area of Lagos.
He alleged that Mr David lured the girl into his room and defiled her.
The prosecution said the minor was receiving treatment in the hospital.
He said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment for defilement.
