Commercial Activities Crippled In Ife As Protesting OAU Students Block Major Roads Over ASUU Strike

Commercial activities has been crippled in Ife as protesting Obafemi Awolowo university students stormed and barricaded Major roads in the ancient city on Thursday.

The students who first converged at the university’s main gate later moved in their numbers with placards to barricade the Ife Ibadan express way and Ife Ede road.

According to inscriptions on their placards, the students were demanding an end to the ongoing industrial strike action by the academic staff union of universities, which has resulted in the shutdown of academic activities in all universities across the country.

However, the students also faulted the federal government’s inability to come into agreement with the striking lecturers over the years.

Furthermore, according to Aderoju Sodiq, One of the students who spoke with our reporter at the scene of the protest, he pleaded with the federal government to invest hugely in the country’s education sector by funding it and settle the striking lecturers.

He said, “the government should fund the universities, settled the striking lecturers because our lives and future depend on it.

We can’t continue like this, imagine inhale spent more that 7 years for a five years course without having extra year.

This things should change, enough is enough plead with the federal government to invest hugely in the country’s education sector by funding it.
