Ekiti Guber Poll: Police Restricts Vehicular Movement In Ekiti State

The Ekiti State Police Command has placed restriction on vehicular movement in and out of Ekiti State from 11:59pm Friday 17th June, 2022.

The development is part of the measures to achieve a free, fair and credible election in Saturday’s Governorship poll.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Johnson Kokumoh said “the order became necessary to prevent infiltrations by criminally minded individuals who may have the intention of disrupting the process before, during and after the polls.”

This measure will equally enable all the security forces deployed for the polls to take a firm grip of the state, checkmate the activities of the political thugs and prevent the flow of illicit drugs and prohibited arms.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, concluded the distribution of all sensitive materials for the poll and the retraining of it’s adhoc staff on Friday.

The Commission’s head of voter education and publicity in Ekiti State, Femi Akinbiyi told Voice of Nigeria that “INEC expects a smooth and hitch free electoral process.”

He advised prospective voters to be orderly, exercise patience and get to their polling stations at 8:30 (Local time), saying accreditation and voting will not commence until after the process.

Ekiti State has about a million registered voters but only about 700,000 collected their PVC, making them eligible to vote.
