Police Apprehend Fake Officer, Others For Hijacking Truck In Ibadan

 

The Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State have pprehended a teacher known as Adebisi Ayodele, for presenting himself as an Assistant Superintendent of Police attached to Police Mobile Force Unit.

This was contained in a statement issued by the state PPRO, Adewale Osifeso and made available to journalists.

He said Ayodele, who has been presenting himself as a police officer for 13 years, was arrested at Asejire, in Egbeda Local Government Area, while providing illegal escort services in a Red Mitsubishi space wagon.

The statement reads partly; “In furtherance of the above, the dragnet of eagle-eyed operatives attached to “Operation Restore Peace”, Oyo State Police Command has identified and apprehended one Adebisi Ayodele ‘m,’ a level 14 elementary school teacher at Ikereku- Idan, Abeokuta, Ogun State, who has been presenting himself as an Assistant Superintendent of Police attached to Police Mobile Force Unit of the Nigeria Police Force for (13) thirteen years

“He was apprehended while the team conducted intelligence-led stop and search duties.

“The suspect at the time of arrest on Sunday 21/08/2022 at Asejire under Egbeda Local Government was providing illegal escort services in a Red Mitsubishi space wagon with Registration No. ARP 34 AA, dressed in complete police uniform in the company of another female passenger.

“He confessed to having been practicing the act for years and had successfully misled a lot of his unsuspecting victims with his actions.

“At the point of arrest, he was found in possession of two unexpended canisters (Teargas) and a complete kit of Police Mobile Force Uniform, however wrongly worn.

“The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the source of his supplies, and motives and to apprehend the rest of his criminal ring,” Osifeso said.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Command have arrested two suspects, identified as Umaru Sunday and Itoh John, for hijacking and diverting truck loaded with cartons of cigarette.

According to Osifeso, the suspects were arrested while waiting for the receivers of the consignment at the Toll Gate area of Ibadan.

“In another development, at about 1600hrs, on 16/08/2022, information was received by operatives of the Command attached to the Monitoring Unit while on intelligence-based anti-crime patrol at Toll Gate area that a trailer loaded with Cigarettes suspected to have been hijacked and diverted by some unknown hoodlums was sighted where the hoodlums were waiting for their criminal receivers at the Toll Gate area, Ibadan.

“In furtherance of the above, the team of operatives immediately swung into action and intercepted (2) Two suspects UMARU SUNDAY ‘M’ and ITOH JOHN ‘ in Possession of (150)One Hundred and Fifty cartons of Cigarette.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, PEJU OKANLAWON ‘m’ from whom another (120) One Hundred and Twenty Cartons of the Cigarette were recovered in Lagos State.

“Upon interrogations, the suspect confessed to having assisted the hijackers in moving the diverted goods to their criminal receivers in Ibadan where they were arrested.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the hijacked trailer and the goods belong to a Tobacco Company located in Ibadan and the management of the company has confirmed the missing consignment,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, enjoined members of the public to continue cooperating with officers and men of the command while discharging their duties and to be unrelenting in providing credible timely information capable of nipping crime in the bud at all times.
