Ahead of today’s primary election to select candidates to represent the All Progressives Congress APC, in the October 15 local government election in Osun, stakeholders of the party have called on the leadership of the party, to guard against antics of imposition by some elements, within the party.
Speaking with newsmen on Friday, the stakeholders drawn from Youths and Women, in Atakunmosa West Central LCDA, stressed the need for the APC leaders, to caution some political office holders especially the state lawmaker, from imposing candidates in the area.
They particularly alleged the lawmaker of doing everything possible to subdue the directive of the party at the state level that women aspirants, should be allowed to clinch the party’s ticket for either councillorship or chairmanship, in line with Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s directive.
Governor Oyetola had in a meeting with all stakeholders and all chairmanship vis a Vis councillorship aspirants, on Friday at the Government House, Osogbo, directed that all aspirants must meet with their party leaders, and decide if their mode of selecting candidates will either be by consensus or primary.
He, however said that in a situation where there is only a female aspirant for a position, she should be given the party’s ticket, in a bid to allow women actively participate in the development of their locality.
But, the lawmaker according to the stakeholders is not allowing the Governor’s decision to hold sway. “Instead, He is planning to conduct a primary that will impose his candidate.
‘The party leadership have already agreed on the female aspirant. The lawmaker is just being mischievous and self-centred. That is why we want the Governor to save us.”
