There is anxiety in the air as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to release the final list of presidential and National Assembly candidates.
ADULAWONEWS recalls that INEC in June released a list consisting of presidential candidates, their running mates and national assembly candidates.
With the electoral body set to release the final list, there is anxiety in the camp of some politicians.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan is not sure of his name emerging on the list with Bashir Machina insisting on remaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Yobe North senatorial ticket.
This is despite the National Working Committee (NWC) recognising Lawan as its candidate against Machina who is believed to have won the primary conducted by INEC.
In Akwa Ibom North-West, the former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio is battling for the ticket of the party against Udom Udo Ekpoudom who had won the May 27, 2022 primary.
Even though the Federal High Court had declared Akpabio as the authentic candidate, the issue seems not settled, as Ekpoudom refused to accept the court ruling.
The court had ordered INEC to accept and publish Akpabio’s name as APC senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom North/West senatorial district in 2023.
Candidates and political parties would be expectant of the final list that would be released by the commission today.
