As the 2023 general elections gather pace, Collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) from the Registration Areas at the ward levels across the country is expected to end on Sunday, January 22, 2023.

The exercise is however expected to revert to the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the local government level from Monday, January 23 and end on Sunday, January 29 which is the last scheduled date for the collection of PVCs by registered voters.

Information from the commission indicate that about 5,593 PVCs were collected by registered voters across the 18 local government areas in Edo state, while 25,749 registered voters collected their PVC across the 20 local government areas in Lagos state on Friday, January 20.

The collection of PVCs at the Registration Areas was initially scheduled to end on the 16th of January was extended by one week, while the collection at the local government area office of the commission earlier scheduled to end on the 22nd of January was extended to January 29.

The Commission said the extension was part of its determination to ensure that registered voters have ample opportunity to collect their PVCs ahead of the general election. The Commission said it was encouraged by the turnout of registered voters and the surge in the number of collected PVCs across the country, while also expressing concern over allegations of discriminatory issuance of PVCs in some locations.
