Fire explosion has rocked a cooking gas plant located along Effurun/Sapele road in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The gas station which was identified as NELMIC Gas Plant, located opposite the Effurun Post Office, got afflamed at about 10:30pm on Monday night.
The cause of the fire explosion could not be ascertained immediately.
Witnesses told The Punch correspondent that a thunderous sound heralded the fire explosion which destroyed the gas plant completely.
Prior to the arrival of fire department personnel, it was also learned that the blazing fire was rapidly encroaching on nearby residential structures and a well-known church.
However, it was learned that an unspecified number of people were feared dead while a number of others were hurt in the fire explosion. As a result, the exact number of casualties could not yet be determined.
The police public relations officer PPRO for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe could not be reached for comments on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
