A Nigerian Army personnel, Lance Corporal Nwobodo Chinonso, has committed suicide after killing three soldiers.
Lt. Sam Oladapo and other others are said to have died over the weekend when Chinonso reportedly opened fire.
Oladapo was in charge of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Rabah in Sokoto State.
He also killed a private soldier named Attahiru Mohammed and the FOB Command Sergeant Major (CSM), Sgt. Iliyasu Inusa.
The gunman shot and killed his coworkers before turning the weapon on himself.
The Commander 8 Division Garrison and the Commander 26 Battalion are at the base, a source told PRNigeria.
The Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital has received the victims’ remains, and an inquiry has already begun.
A senior officer in Sokoto Division suggested the soldier may have been battling “operational and psychological stress”.
“It is something that is common in the military. But that’s not a justification for any of our soldiers to go haywire,” he said.
