As Osun State joins the rest of the country in electing their representatives to the State House of Assemblies, the turnout in the early hours of today in Osogbo, the Osun state capital was somehow low.

It is the Governorship and House of Assembly elections across the country with gubernitorial elections holding in 28 States across the country .
However, Osun State is one of the States with seven others in Nigeria where Governorship elections will not be holding today .

Most of the wards and polling units visited in Osogbo the State capital in the early hours of today saw voters standing scantily at their polling units.

On the other hand, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC were already on ground as early 7:45am as they have erected their cubicles and assembled other election materials.

A chat with some of the INEC officials revealed that elections proper will start by 8:30am and end by 2:30pm with nobody allowed to join the queue from that point.

A resident of Sobaloju compound around Oja-Oba area of Osogbo, Mr Adejunke Muftau while speaking with OsunNewsroom attributed the low turn out to the scarcity of cash in the country.

He said a lot of people are hungry and are mentally down, hence their reluctance to turn out for the elections, while using the opportunity to call on government to do something about the issue of scarcity of cash in the society.

Another voter at Ward 3, Unit 9 in Isale Agbara, Alhaji Hammed Adisa corroborated the view of Mr Adekunke Muftau concerning the issue of scarcity of cash as the reason for the low turn out.

It is hoped that the turn out will improve as the hours goes by as OsunNewsroom crew continues in the coverage of the Osun Assembly elections.
