I Used To Place Soyinka On Pedestal – Charly Boy Mocks Laureate For ‘Obidients’ Comment

The playwright’s recent criticism of Peter Obi’s followers, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, prompted the Nwata Miss singer to respond.

Charley Boy claimed that the reverence he had felt for Prof. Soyinka was comparable to that of his late father, Justice Oputa.

Charly Boy lamented the realization that Soyinka will never be the same as the late literary giant Chinua Achebe.

Veteran Nigerian singer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, said Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has reduced himself to a “boyiboyi” for corrupt politicians.

He lamented that many Nigerians who held Soyinka in high esteem would be disappointed by his political recent marks.

In a tweet, Charly Boy wrote, “The kin respect I had for dis man, was almost the kind of respect I had for my stainless father, The Socrates of the Supreme Court.

“It has finally dawned on me that Soyinka can never be the man Chinua Achebe was.

“Look at a man many Nigerians put on such a high pedestal reducing himself to a boyiboyi for criminal politicians.

”What a f..king big shame.”
