Kidnappers Demand N70million Ransom For Abducted Nasarawa Ex-Deputy Governor, Gye-Wado

Kidnappers who abducted a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state, Professor Onje Gye Wado, have placed a N70million ransom for his release.

A family source who confirmed the event claimed that the gunmen made a demand over the phone for the first time since kidnapping the former Deputy Governor.

ADULAWO NEWS reports that Professor Onje Gye-Wado was kidnapped Thursday night in Rinz village of Wamba local government area by unknown gunmen.

“His wife came in for Easter celebration and they broke into the house through her widow and took him away to an unknown destination. We are hoping that the security agencies will make efforts towards rescuing him unhurt,” a source had said.

Gye-Wado, who served as Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State from 1999 to 2003, had narrowly escaped kidnap attempts.

In a same vein, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the former deputy governor’s kidnapping in a statement made available to newsmen in Lafia on Friday.

The police said that they were attempting to save him unscathed.

Speaking with Vanguard, a family source said, “The kidnappers are in touch with the family of Prof and they have demanded the sum of N70million, while the family has offered N2 million naira.”

Available information indicated that the family was pleading with the abductors to accept the two million because they could not raise anything more than the two million due to the public holidays declared by the federal government for the Easter celebration.

“Today Friday, till Monday, is public holiday, there is no where we can get money and we want him (Prof), back alive” the source said.
