Court Remands Farmer For Allegedly Assaulting Man In Ondo

 

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Odigbo, Ondo State has remanded a farmer identified as Gbolagun Anthony in a correctional centre for allegedly assaulting a man.

The 58-old-year defendant was brought before Chief Magistrate D.O Ogunfuyi on one count of assault.

According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on July 13, 2023 at about 8pm at Asejire village in Ore, Ondo State.

The prosecutor, Inspector Usifo James, told the court that the accused unlawfully assaulted one Igbekele Lawrence, by giving him a fist blow, tooth bite on his mouth and causing him injury.

The offence contravenes Section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Anthony pleaded not guilty to the offence levelled against him.

Usifo, therefore, sought an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and prepare his witnesses for trial.

The defence counsel, Mr A. J. Agbor, did not oppose the prosecutor’s application. But he prayed the court to grant the accused person bail on the most liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate, D. O Ogunfuyi admitted the defendant to N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

He, however, ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his
bail and adjourned the case till August 21, 2023, for trial.
