Peace Day: Osun NSCDC Calls For Tolerance, Peaceful Among All Tribes

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps {NSCDC} Osun State Command joined other nations of the world to celebrate this year’s International Day of Peace, with the theme ‘’ACTIONS FOR PEACE: OUR AMBITION FOR GLOBAL GOALS’’.

While addressing participants at the programme, the NSCDC Commandant, Agboola Sunday said a peaceful society could only be achieved through individual conscious efforts and by different homes in the society.

Commandant Agboola stated further that the grassroots’ key players in Osun state were invited for the programme so as to cascade lessons learnt to various communities represented. The occasion is also at having a nation free from hatred, violence, fear and intolerance.
‘’All hands must be on deck to have a Nigeria that generation yet unborn will be proud of. A nation where fear and social unrest is totally substituted with peace should be the goal of everyone,’’ Agboola said

Also speaking, the wife of Osun State Governor, Her Excellency, Erelu Ngozi Adeleke ably represented by Princess Adenike Adeleke urged everyone to make peace a watchword for daily living. She stressed that development is only possible where love and peace thrive.

In his own goodwill message, the Royal Father of the day, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Adedokun Abolarin, Aroyinkeye I, Orangun of Oke Ila made it known that nation building is a game of tolerance. He enjoined Nigerians to love one another genuinely in order to have a peaceful, just and inclusive societies free from violence.

Delivering the lecture titled ‘’Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals,’’ the guest speaker, an associate professor in the Department of Technical and Vocational Education at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Fakorede Saheed Olajide, emphasized the need for everyone to respect human right, remain resilient, celebrate success, empower the youths and preach peace at all times.

The head of unit, Peace and Conflict Resolutions, Assistant Commandant of Corps Akinwolere John said peace is not the absence of war but the presence of law, justice and order. He explained further that the programme was organised to educate people about the importance of peace.
