Osun Assembly Seeks Upgrade For Ede North Area Council To LCDA

Osun State House of Assembly has sought for the upgrade of the Ede-North Area Council, created in 2015, to a Local Council Development Area.

ADULAWO NEWS reports that the Amendment bill, which is still in deliberation on the floor of the General Assembly, passed its Policy Thrust, and subsequently the second reading.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Kofoworola Adewumi, who led the deliberation cited the population growth of the Area Council and upholding the rights of the residents as cogent reasons for the upgrade of the Area Council.

While members representing Ede-South, Obokun and Ola-oluwa supported and added that the bill be fast tracked, members representing Ife – central, Ifelodun and Olorunda Local Governments, in their different remarks, enjoined the Assembly to set a criteria for such upgrade in order to prevent unnecessary requests for upgrade in the future.

In the same vein, the Osun State House of Assembly Service Commission Establishment, Amendment No (3) Bill, 2023 also passed its policy thrust stage as defended by member representing Ilesha West Local Government, Hon. Wale Akerele.

The bill, the Sponsor defends, if passed into law will not only strengthen the administrative and financial autonomy of the Commission, but will also make provision for the retirement of state technocrats heading the establishment

The passage of the bill is also expected to serve as motivation for staff towards enhanced service delivery.
