President Tinubu Sends Student Loan Amendment Bill To Senate For Consideration

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to repeal and re-enact the Student Loans, Access to Higher Education Act 2023.

President Tinubu revealed that the request is made pursuant to section 58(2)of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999)as Amended.

ADULAWO News reports that the student loan seeks to enhance the implementation of the higher education students loan scheme by addressing challenges related to the management structure of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund.

The bill also seeks to map out applicant eligibility requirements, loan purpose, funding sources. disbursements and re-payment procedures.
President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio after reading the communique ‘referred the bill to committee of the whole, and thereafter to the senate committee on TETFUND for further legislative work.

The amendment bill is coming a few days after the Federal Government postponed the launch of the Scheme indefinitely.
The House of Representatives are also reported to have begun reconsidering the Student Loan Bill following President Tinubu’s request
