In a shocking turn of events, Tigran Gambaryan, a detained executive of Binance Holdings Limited, has been caught planning a daring prison escape from Kuje Correctional Facility. According to sources, Gambaryan applied for a new US passport, claiming his seized passport was missing, in a bid to flee the country.

The Armenian-born executive, who holds both American and Armenian passports, attempted to deceive the US Embassy in Abuja by reporting his passport lost, which is currently in the possession of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). However, his plan was foiled when the EFCC discovered his scheme and alerted the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Gambaryan’s bail application has been met with opposition from the EFCC, which fears he may flee Nigeria like his colleague, Nadeem Anjarwalla, who escaped to Kenya. Sources close to the investigation revealed that Gambaryan’s plan was to use the new passport to escape from Kuje prison, but his request was flagged by the US embassy, which promptly notified the EFCC.

This development has raised concerns about the potential for high-profile criminals to evade justice, and the EFCC is working to ensure that Gambaryan faces trial for his alleged crimes, including money laundering and concealing the source of $35.4 million in revenue generated by Binance in Nigeria.
