A sudden and unexpected incident occurred at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday morning, leaving at least six students injured.

ADULAWO NEWS reports that the roof of the iconic Amphitheatre, a popular venue for classes and events, collapsed during a SER 001 class scheduled to hold from 8 am to 9 am.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as one of chaos and confusion as students scrambled to safety amidst the falling debris. “The sudden collapse left at least six students injured, prompting emergency response efforts. Some students sustained minor injuries, while others were more seriously affected by the incident,” said an eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous.

Emergency medical personnel swiftly arrived at the scene to provide assistance and transport the injured to the hospital. One of the injured students, the general class representative of the course, was reportedly unconscious at the time of being conveyed to the hospital for treatment.

University officials have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the roof collapse and assess the structural integrity of other buildings on campus. Meanwhile, classes in the affected area have been suspended until further notice to ensure the safety of students and faculty.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, led other principal officers to the Medical and Health Centre of the University and ensured that the injured students were given adequate medical attention. The management of the University has sealed off the amphitheatre, the venue of the unfortunate incident, until further notice.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and maintenance of university facilities, and students are calling for a thorough investigation and prompt action to prevent such incidents in the future.
