The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Silvester Abiodun Alabi, has warned police officers across the country to desist from extorting innocent Nigerians. Speaking during a visit to the Osun State Police Command on Thursday, DIG Alabi emphasized the need for officers to uphold integrity and protect citizens with dignity.

Alabi stated that extorting innocent citizens is a betrayal of public trust and undermines the integrity of the police force.
He urged officers to always remember their oath of office and uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for human rights.

The DIG also cautioned officers against using their position to harass, intimidate, or exploit innocent citizens, warning that such actions would no longer be tolerated. He encouraged officers to be friendly, approachable, and professional in their interactions with the public.

Alabi’s warning comes amidst growing concerns about police brutality and extortion in Nigeria.
ADULAWO NEWS reports that police force has been working to reform its image and regain public trust, and the DIG’s warning is seen as a step in the right direction.
