The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State Command has apprehended a 40-year-old man, Jide Fadipe, for allegedly vandalizing a government primary school building in Ilaje-Area, Ilesa, Osun State.
Following a tip-off from a concerned citizen, the command launched an investigation and deployed surveillance around the school area, leading to the suspect’s arrest on Tuesday, 4th June, 2024, at 5am, while attempting to remove roofing sheets.
This was revealed in a statement issued by Osun Command public relations officer, ASC Kehinde Adeleke and made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Friday.
The suspect was subsequently caught trying to sell the stolen materials to metal scraps buyers in Ilesa. According to Commandant Michael Adaralewa PhD, the suspect will face the full force of the law, as vandalism of government property is a serious offence under Section 451 of the Criminal Code law Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, Nigeria.
The Commandant emphasized that the suspect’s prosecution will serve as a deterrent to others who engage in similar criminal activities, and urged the public to continue supporting the NSCDC in its efforts to protect government properties and critical infrastructure.
