As Nigeria marks its 25th Democracy Day, Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development, a non-governmental organization, urges all stakeholders to work together to strengthen the local government system, ensuring effective delivery of good governance to Nigerians.
Over the past two and a half decades, Nigeria has transitioned from military rule to civilian leadership, facing challenges such as institutional decay and corruption, which have hindered growth in various sectors. The modified constitution has also contributed to the weakening of the local government system, the tier of government closest to the people.
To address these challenges, our initiative, which has consistently advocated for good governance and development, launches the Osun Open Local Government Project. This project aims to promote transparency and accountability in governance, fostering public trust and holding leaders accountable.
We seek support from all to demand a change in attitude from local government leaders across the country and advocate for full autonomy for local governments, enabling citizens to demand more from elected officials.
Insight Initiative also joins the call for improved economic policies from the President Bola Tinubu administration to address hunger, poverty, and rising inflation.
