The Osun State Police Command has apprehended two armed robbers, Adesina Hammed (29) and Oyeladun Iyanu (28), who operated in the Osogbo metropolis using a motorcycle. The suspects, along with two others still at large, allegedly robbed two men of N400,000 and an iPhone 13 around Olaiya Area on June 5.
The police command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, stated that the suspects used cutlasses to threaten their victims and force them to withdraw cash from a nearby Point of Sale operator. The iPhone 13 was later sold for N140,000 in Osogbo.
The arrests were made following reports from the public through various media platforms, including social media and petitions, about a string of robberies and kidnappings in the area. The police have launched an investigation and are working to apprehend the remaining two suspects.
In a separate incident, the police arrested Yusuf Adamu, a Kebbi State indigene, for allegedly stealing an electricity cable. Adamu was caught by police operatives from the Divisional Headquarters ‘B’ Division, Ede, on June 2, following a distress call from concerned citizens.
The police command has vowed to crack down on criminal activity in the state, with operatives receiving a mandate to arrest all suspects linked to the crimes.
