A Federal High Court in Kano has set aside the Kano Emirates Council Law repealed by the Kano State Government, which led to the dethroning of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero and other emirs.

The court ruled in favour of a kingmaker, Aminu Babba Danagundi, who challenged the law’s propriety.

ADULAWO NEWS reports that Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman declared the law null and void, ordering parties to maintain the status quo.

The Kano State Government had repealed the law, leading to the dethroning of Emir Bayero and the reversal of the creation of four emirates.

The government had also re-appointed Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano, who was previously dethroned in 2020.

The court’s ruling sets aside all steps taken by the government to implement the repealed law.
