The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), led by Archbishop Prof Leonard Kawas, hosted its largest gathering of bishops in Abuja, Nigeria, from June 11-13, 2024.
The conference, which marked the 10th anniversary of the CBCN, brought together over 500 bishops from 36 states in Nigeria, Europe, the USA, and 20 other countries.
The event featured a banquet, special prayers for Nigeria, and a Meritorious Service award presentation to dignitaries, including Nigeria’s First Lady, the wife of the Vice President, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Chief of Defense Staff, and the Inspector General of Police.
The CBCN also waded into the ongoing crisis between the Federal Government and Organized Labour, calling for dialogue and negotiation to resolve the minimum wage and electricity tariff disputes.
In a statement, Archbishop Kawas urged the NLC to continue negotiating with the government, warning that a strike could lead to increased inflation and hardship.
The conference also saw the elevation of Archbishop Kawas to the title of President General, and the amendment of the title from National President to President General.
The event concluded with a visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who received an award for the partnership for progress and called on the Charismatic Bishops to continue praying for the country and government.
