APC Convention: Omisore, Two Others Battle For National Secretary Position

Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former Deputy Governor in State of Osun, will battle the APC National Secretary position with two other aspirants from the South-west in the forthcoming national convention scheduled to hold on Saturday.

Omisore, a governoship candidate of the Social Democrats party (SDP) in the 2018 Guber election in Osun last week submitted his nomination form for the National Secretary position of the party which was zoned to the South-west.

The Senator will be facing the former Minister for Communication, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu and the Executive Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Mr. Ife Oyedele for the National Secretary position.

However, it has not been clear of the dou of Shittu and Oyedele had submitted their nomination forms as of last night.

The former Minister for Communication according to Investigation was the first person to indicate interest in the office of APC National Secretary.

However, Shittu’s aspiration according to report did not garner the support of the APC governors in the South-west, but that did not deter him from pursuing his aspiration, leveraging on his goodwill with Buhari’s political allies.

Shittu, a member of the 2005 National Political Reform Conference, has been an ally of Buhari while Oyedele who will also be contesting National Secretary position before his appointment as NDPHC’s was the executive director in charge of Engineering &Technical Services.

Oyedele and Shittu has been close to the political family of the president since the time of the defunct CPC.

He was among the key persons that promoted Buhari’s presidential aspiration in 2011. At its formation, Oyedele served on the CPC Constitution Drafting Committee and also represented the party during the alliance talk in 2011 and merger talks that produced the APC in 2013. He also contested the governorship election in Ondo State in 2016 and 2020.
