A UK based Businessman, Prince Gabriel Oluwakayode Oyetunji of Gboleru Ruling House in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government, has declared his interest in becoming the next Akinrun of Ikirun.
It would be recalled that the late Akinrun, Oba Abdulrauf Olayiwola Olawale, Adedeji II passed on early this year, leaving the stool vacant.
Oyetunji made the declaration when he paid homage to the Eesa of Ikirun, Chief Lawal Adebayo at his residence with other chiefs in attendance.
According to Oyetunji, mounting the stool will be a call to service to Ikirun indigenes and residents at large, adding that he will use the entire experience he has garnered within and outside the country to work towards the development of the town.
He said: “The main thing that really motivates me is the call to serve. I see myself as a servant and if God says go and serve and you feel reluctant to do so, God is ready to raise stone in place of human being to serve that particular purpose.
“I wish to be a servant in a way that the people of Ikirunland and the community as a whole will have a sense of belonging in all areas of their lives. I really want to come around and serve humanity and God Almighty.”
Answering questions on how equipped he is, considering the enormous task of being an Akirun, Oyetunji said with the support of God and his experience both locally and internationally, the responsibility will be an easy one.
He said: “If God decides to use me, I will not be the one doing it but Him. No matter how big the responsibility could be, God will surely make the whole thing easy.
“By the special grace of God, I am more than prepared in terms of my working experience, my line of duty, career-wise and education.”
