World Malaria Day: Osun Assembly Urges Residents To Explore Adequate Medical Facilities

 

The Chairperson on Health Committee in Osun state House of Assembly, Mrs Adenike Abioye has admonished residents and dwellers of the State of Osun to explore medical facilities provided by the state government to take care of their health.

Mrs Adenike Abioye gave the admonition in a release issued to commemorate this year’s World Malaria Day with the theme, “Harness Innovation to Reduce the Malaria Disease Burden and Save Lives”,aligns with call to urgently scale up innovation and the deployment of new tools in the fight against malaria.

She advocated for equitable access to malaria prevention and treatment, within the context of building health system resilience.

Abioye said the state government has raised the standard of medical delivery and services to the expected level.

She explained that findings have revealed that malaria is a dreaded parasite if not given timely and expected attention, it can lead to early death.

According to the latest reports released by World Health Organization, indicates that  there were 241 million cases of malaria in 2020 compared to 227 million cases in 2019. The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 627,000 in 2020 – an increase of 69,000 deaths over the previous year. While about two thirds of these deaths (47,000) were due to disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic,the remaining one third of deaths (22,000) reflect a recent change in WHO’s methodology for calculating malaria mortality (irrespective of COVID-19 disruptions).

She thereafter charged the people of the State especially mothers to take care of their children saying if malaria parasite leave unattended to, it might worsen the health related issues.
