Osun Senator, SRJ Speaks On Need To Reduce Recurrent Expenditure For Speeding Economy

Dr Ajibola Basiru, Senate Spokesman has informed that for the Government to function well and the economy to move at the speed of a gazelle, Government needs to adjust Bureaucracy and MDAs and by so doing, reduce the size of the Government.

He made the remarks at this year’s 3rd Candido Da Rocha lecture organised by Osun State University, Osogbo.

The theme of the lecture delivered by Chukwuma Obara, Professor of Law, was “Treasury Single Account and Economic Development in Nigeria:The Ethical Accounting Question.

As the Chairman of the occasion, Senator Basiru, commended the endowment by the family of the late Candido Da Rocha and the cerebral lecturer. He observed that it was time Nigeria looked critically at its recurrent expenditure to pool more resources for capital expenditure and remove bureaucratic bottlenecks that usually constitute clogs in the wheel of administrative and economic progress.

Calling for continuous engagement of the gown and town, Senator Basiru equally advised the Government to rejig the Treasury Single Account and make it more effective to check the corruption it was put in place to tackle.

The lawmaker remarked as well that the Government must tackle headlong the problems of insecurity and employment, and create an agreeable environment for youths who want to become entrepreneurs.

Basiru emphasised that providing incentives for graduates to become enterprising and stand on their own will oil the machinery of the economy, stressing that youths form the productive segment of the nation’s population.

Senator Ajibola Basiru donated books authored by Nigeria’s former ambassador to The Philippines, Dr Akinyemi Farounbi, to the University.
