The Osun State Polytechnic Iree Alumni Association (OSPAA) has strongly condemned a trending comedy skit that negatively portrays institutions in Osun State on various social media platforms.
The National Executive Council of OSPAA described the skit as “barbaric” and “unprofessional” in a statement issued through its National Publicity Secretary, Adekunle Sikiru, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
The association expressed dismay that the skit maker has been circulating videos on social media platforms, portraying students of tertiary institutions in Osun State as unaware of the meaning of National Diploma (ND).
The OSPAA decried the approach used by the skit maker, stating that it has put measures in place to end unprofessional comedy skit making within the Ospoly campus. The skit, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked outrage among alumni and students of the institution, who feel that it tarnishes the image of the school and its students.
The OSPAA affirmed its readiness to collaborate with the management of Osun State Polytechnic Iree to combat any individual or organization attempting to tarnish the image of the institution through social media posts or skit making.
The NEC clarified that the individuals featured in the comedy skit, purported to be newly matriculated students of Osun State Polytechnic Iree, are not students or matriculating students of the institution. The association has also called on the skit maker to apologize and retract the videos, failure of which will lead to legal action.
The OSPAA commended the proactiveness of its members for their concern about issues affecting the image of their alma mater.
The association issued a stern warning to individuals or organizations attempting to portray Osun State Polytechnic Iree negatively through comedy skits, urging them to desist from such actions.
The OSPAA stated that anyone caught engaging in this behavior will face legal action and damage to their reputation.
The association also called on the general public to disregard the skit and not share it further, as it does not represent the values and standards of Osun State Polytechnic Iree. The OSPAA reiterated its commitment to upholding the good name of the institution and protecting the interests of its members.
