The Former House of Representatives Aspirant under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) For Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency, Hon. Ishola Olateju Olohungbebe has emphasized the need to safeguard Igbomina’s rich cultural heritage in the face of modernization and urbanization.
Olohungbebe while speaking at the “Asa Igbomina day, held at Kwara State university in Melete on Tuesday, he highlighted the challenges facing the community’s cultural identity, including undefined land boundaries, lack of a common identity symbol, and leadership challenges.
ADULAWO NEWS report that Igbomina, which located in the southeastern part of Kwara State and central part of Osun State, is home to a community that shares a rich history, culture, and dialect.
Igbomina is known for its vibrant cultural heritage, including traditional practices, festivals, and craftsmanship, such as farming, woodcarving, hunting, and business practices.
He stressed the importance of teaching children the value of “OMOLUABI” (virtuous character) and urged dedication, creativity, and flexibility to preserve Igbomina’s cultural legacy.
He also acknowledged the need for a unified leadership and a common identity symbol, such as a crown or turban, to promote the community’s cultural heritage.
According to him, The leadership challenges is seriously affecting us when it comes to meaningful representation and deliberation for national growth and unity.
“To preserve our cultural heritage effectively, we must adopt a comprehensive approach that includes education, preservation, revitalization, and adaptation.
“Education is foundational; Integrating cultural studies into school curricula will foster pride and awareness among our youth, this can be put to start in all our environments.
” Initiatives such as cultural festivals, storytelling sessions, and community workshops can celebrate our traditions and facilitate knowledge transfer across generations.
“Documenting oral histories and rituals through modern media will preserve our invaluable heritage and promote cultural tourism, providing economic benefits to local communities.
“Community Engagement: Involving the communities in cultural events and decision-making is important to preserve our rich culture”.He add.
The event brought together scholars, elders, and community leaders to discuss the preservation of Igbomina’s cultural heritage in the 21st century. Hon.
