Osun Gubernatorial Race : Ogunbiyi May Contest Under ADC

THERE are indications that Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, a governorship aspirant who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) might contest the July 16, 2022 governorship election on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC).

It was revealed that Ogunbiyi had finalized discussions with leaders of the ADC in Abuja and Osun and join the party any moment, baring last minute change of mind.

Some of Ogunbiyi’s political aides confided in the medium yesterday that the Ileogbo born politician has been assured of the governorship ticket of the ADC.

One of the sources said: “Since Dr (Ogunbiyi) withdrew from the PDP governorship primary election, many political parties have been approaching him with different offers. You know Ogunbiyi is a politician many political parties will want. But he is being guided by God.

“ADC is our next destination. We left PDP officially on Tuesday and I can assure you that we have finalized discussion on our defection to the ADC. Dr. (Ogunbiyi) will contest the governorship election under ADC. That has been settled.”

It was gathered that Ogunbiyi has also been encouraging some governorship aspirants of the PDP to join the ADC.

When contacted for confirmation, Mr. John Ajayi, the Media Aide to Ogunbiyi, said it was premature to declare which party his principal would join.

Ajayi urged the medium to exercise patience and wait for official declaration of Ogunbiyi’s new party.

It would be recalled that Ogunbiyi had on March 7 withdrew from participating in the PDP governorship primary election, accusing the National Secretariat of the party of bias.

He said: “It is a very difficult decision for me because of the amount of investment and the hope that my personality and leadership would have given to Osun State.

“But when you have an umpire who is so biased to the extent of planning with the other group, what can you do?

“Senator Iyorcha Ayu has agreed to work with Ademola Adeleke and I am being told that I shouldn’t waste my money and we did everything possible. I can only come to the conclusion to withdraw from the race.”
