2023: Shehu Sani Tells NDLEA How To Make Politicians Submit Themselves For Drug Test

A former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has reacted to the move by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to make political aspirants undergo drug tests.

Sani in a post via his Twitter account on Wednesday after the NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa stressed the need for aspirants to be tested said the agency should have got their wish inserted into the amended electoral act.

He wrote: “If the NDLEA wants aspirants to undergo drug test, they should have gotten it inserted into the amended electoral act.”

Recall that ADULAWONEWS had earlier reported that National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had said it is important for all political office aspirants to undergo drug tests before getting clearance to contest positions in the country.

The NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Buba Marwa made the stand known on Wednesday in Abuja during the agency’s 2022 First Quarter Best Performing Commands Awards ceremony.

He said it is important for the drug tests to be carried out so Nigerians won’t end up voting for a drug addict/user who will start using public funds to consume hard drugs such as cocaine.
“For politicians, we have long advocated and I take the opportunity again to repeat the advocacy that when they run for public office, it demands a lot of responsibility from the person and we need to be certain if he’s a person that is already a drug addict/user who will spend all the money he’s given for public service to consume cocaine and his head will not be in a stable condition to handle the affairs he has been entrusted with,” Marwa said.
