NUC Approves 27 New Courses For UI

Twenty seven (27) undergraduate programmes across seven faculties at the University of Ibadan (UI) have been granted full accreditation in addition to the already fully accredited courses offered by the University .

This was contained in a letter from the office of the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abubakar Rasheed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale.

The implication of this is that the University is enabled to admit students and award degrees in the programmes for the next five years.

The fully accredited courses include German; Igbo; Linguistics; Music; Philosophy and Theatre Arts from the Faculty of Arts.

From the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences were Human Nutrition and Dietetics; Physiology; Physiotherapy; and Environmental Health Science.

Computer Science and Geology were fully accredited in the Faculty of Science while Architecture was fully accredited in the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management.

In the Faculty of Technology, Civil Engineering; Food Technology; Industrial and Production Engineering as well as Wood Products Engineering were fully accredited.

Veterinary Medicine was also fully accredited in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

In the Faculty of Education, Early Childhood Education; Arabic Education; Economics Education; Islamic Studies; Health Education; and Human Kinetics were accredited.

The mandate of the NUC is to hold initial accreditation of a new programme after the programme has run for two academic sessions following the initial approval for the
establishment of the programme. Thereafter, the Commission accredits the approved programmes as and when due.
