BREAKING: OSPOLY Suspends Academic Activities Over Rector’s Suspension

The Academic Staff Union (ASUP) of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has suspended academic activities over the suspension of Dr. T.A. Odetayo.as the institution rector by the Osun State government.

Following the suspension of academic academic activities by the union, many students have staged protests at the campus gate over the ongoing examination in the institution that has been interrupted.

Recall that ADULAWO NEWS had yesterday reported that in a statement on Monday signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, M.A.K Jimoh, Dr. Odetayo was suspended following allegations of financial recklessness, corruption, misappropriation of funds, and abuse of office.

Speaking to ADULAWO news correspondent in a phone conversation, the Public Relations Officer of OSPOLY ASUP, Dr. Adeagbo Aderemi confirmed the development that the union is set to hold emergency congress on the incident.

He said that the government did not follow due process before suspending Dr. Odetayo As rector of the institution.

According to him, “There rules and regulations of the land, if you want to suspend a rector of the school, you have to take the due process.

“And all this allegations, I’m getting hold of it for the first time we ought to have been informed, the rector ought to have been informed, and answer some questions as regards that.

“According to the act, the rector can not even spend more than five hundred thousand or one million naira without the approval of the state government.
“So how could he be alleged of such kind of atrocities without the knowledge of the present day government.”

Some of the students cchanted protest songs at the front of the institution carrying placards.

“Governor Ti Dawa, Egbe PDP Ti Fowa Je, Awa Union Deyin Leyin Won, Omi Lo Ma Gbe Won Lo” ‘The Governor has betrayed us, PDP has disappointed us, we union members are no more supporting them, water will wash them away,” the union menbers chorused.

Governor Ademola Adeleke had in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education, Mr. M.A.K. Jimoh suspended Odetayo and subsequently announced Mr. Alabi Adeyemi, as the acting Rector with immediate effect.
