Tragedy has struck the campaign team of incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, as one of his campaign coordinators, Alaba Excel Abbey, was brutally assassinated at his home in Supare Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area. Mr. Abbey, who served as a ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF), was shot at the front of his house, according to his younger brother, Samuel Abbey.

The deceased was a dedicated member of the campaign team, serving as the returning officer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 10 during the recently concluded primary election. His killing has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Ondo State.

The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF) has condemned the gruesome murder, calling on security agencies, particularly the police, to protect its members from such brutal attacks. In a statement, spokesperson Kayode Fasua described the late Abbey as an active and dedicated campaigner who was deeply involved in the campaign activities of Aiyedatiwa until his untimely death.

David Ajobiewe, Director-General of LACO-FS in Akoko Southwest Local Government, described the killing of Abbey as a “big tragedy.” He emphasized that Abbey was a peaceful and resourceful coordinator who had no history of violence or local disputes. Ajobiewe urged the police authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident and assured that the state command has launched an investigation into the brutal killing. “The state command is aware of the incident, and investigation is ongoing to unravel all that happened,” she said.

The assassination of Alaba Excel Abbey has raised concerns about the safety and security of political actors in Ondo State, particularly during this election season. As the investigation unfolds, many are calling for justice and an end to political violence in the state.
