The Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday paraded in Ibadan nine suspected cultists.
The State Police Commissioner, CP Vivian Ngozi Onadeko while briefing pressmen at the Command headquarters disclosed that the suspected cultists were arrested in Oyo town.
She stressed that the DPO of Atiba Division of the Oyo State Police command upon information that some cultists were gathering to do their handling over and also to do their initiation of some new members, swung into action and nine of the cultists were arrested.
CP Onadeko stressed that ”the cultists after thorough interrogation confessed to the crime, and they also confessed that they are allnmembers of Eye Confraternity, some of them are going for initiation while some of them are going to hand over to the new executives.”
“I will still continue to enjoy parents and guardians to talk to their wards, and to their children, they should know what they are doing, like those ones arrested now, their parents thought they were in school, but you can see what they have ended up doing”she said
Speaking further, CP. Onadeko listed weapons recovered from the cultists as locally made gun, machete, among other dangerous weapons, and that, at times some of the cultists also engage in armed robbery.
“So we will continue doing our duties to make sure that Oyo State is safe and secure. Onadeko said.
One of the suspects, Ayinde Badmus, a 23 years old, while answering questions from journalists said “I was in Oyo town to greet my friend, but I don’t know they are having an handling over night or something like that, I just went there to greet my friends”
” I’m a student of Ibadan Ibadan, is like my friend is among those cultists, as we are together talking together Amotekun people just come around and arrested us” .
Badmus stressed, ”the locally made gun that was recovered from me is not my own, it belongs to my friend that is currently at large, he’s the owner of the gun that but the gun was found beside me, because we were talking and the gun was placed beside me before the sudden arrival Amotekun officers”.
