The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State Command has arrested and arraigned a 18-year-old plumber, Adewuyi Jamiu Abiodun, for stealing seven brass water taps in Durodola Community, Owode Ede, Osun state. This arrest is a significant milestone in the command’s efforts to combat vandalism and theft in the state.

According to reports, Adewuyi was caught red-handed on April 16th at 5:40pm while removing two brass water taps from a residential building in the community. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that he had a total of seven water taps in his possession, which he confessed to having stolen from various locations in the area.

The suspect, who claimed to be a plumber by trade, admitted to selling the stolen water taps to scrap metal buyers, who then melt them down for resale. This illegal activity not only causes financial loss to the owners of the taps but also undermines the integrity of the water supply system in the community.

Adewuyi was arraigned on Monday, April 22nd at the Magistrate Court in Ede, Osun state, before Chief Magistrate V.A Adedokun, and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for committing an offence under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Law of Osun State. The prosecution team, led by the NSCDC legal officer, presented a watertight case, resulting in the conviction of the suspect.

Commandant Michael Adaralewa of NSCDC Osun State Command commended his team for their diligence and professionalism in handling the case. He warned parents and guardians to caution their wards against engaging in criminal activities, stating that NSCDC will continue to apprehend criminally-minded individuals in the state. “We will not tolerate any form of criminality in Osun state, and we will work tirelessly to ensure that those who break the law are brought to justice,” he said.

This arrest and conviction serve as a deterrent to others who may engage in similar criminal activities, and NSCDC remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of Osun state residents.
