The National Coordinator of Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation, Comrade Ishola Olateju has attributed the rampant cases of broken homes and abuse of women in the country to the neglect of Culture and abolition of History in the education curriculum.

Olateju stated this while speaking at the first Monsurat Ajoke Foundation interactive programme tagged “Female Hangout.”

Olateju said, “We must go back to the way our forefathers handled their families even when they married more than one wife.”

He observed that lack of cultural understanding and total neglect of culture has destroyed many homes

According to him, “Culture shapes the way individuals experience childhood and how they raise their children. Behaviours that are considered abusive in one culture, such as corporal punishment or harsh verbal discipline, may be considered acceptable in another.

“The relationship between culture and child maltreatment is enormous. Our society must look at this and find lasting ways. All of us should be prepared to take up this challenge,” the AGF National Coordinator stressed.

“Our value system needs to be rejigged. This, through the reintroduction of History to our curriculum will afford the upcoming generation the opportunity to understand how important Women are as well as how to accord them the required respect in our society.”

The Founder of the Monsurat Ajoke Foundation, Mrs Monsurat Ajoke said, the interaction was organised in order to listen to the plight of women who are suffering in silence without the courage to speak up.

The hangout, featured medical check-up, interactive session, counselling, skill acquisition and entertainment.
